“Terminally online” is usually an insult. You say it about someone who knows what happened on some platform today, in detail, involving people you’ve never met in person. I’d like to point out that you are currently reading a personal blog, and you’ve probably never met me. Same with other blogs, or forums like reddit or hacker news.

I’m going to skip the part where people pretend they’re going to log off. I’ve watched people announce their departures from the internet the way people announce diets. It lasts about as long, and the announcement itself happens online, which is telling. We’re online, friends.

Most of the internet wants your time in one specific shape: a feed you scroll alone. It’s engineered to be bottomless on purpose, and it works on me the same as it works on you. An hour goes by and I couldn’t tell you one thing I saw. It was time with the texture of static. Maybe that’s dramatic, but tell me it doesn’t ring true. There is so much out there.

I’m mostly just putting my thoughts out there, I don’t see a significant problem, and if I did I wouldn’t have a solution. I mean I guess I could change my life completely, work for the national parks department or something.
